so this is more of a question than anything. i've noticed a lot of people with this epic coloring, and i decided that, being the photoshop-challenged person that i am, i wanted to try it out. so i grabbed a photo i took of my magician bff mike and decided to test it.

the picture on the left of john gomez belongs to m. thomson it's just an example of the coloring i liked. anyways, so i took the original version of mike (middle) and messed around with the hue/saturation and then selective coloring (the red on his tie). But I'm not really happy with the results, as you can tell it's different from her's. was her picture just better coloring to start with? mike was really orange (sunset in new orleans). or am i just being stupid and nitpicky?

any advice would be amazzzing.

it looks like s/he might have used the high pass filter some? it adds some definition, i think. try duplicating the layer, setting a high pass filter (and maybe try experimenting with other filters) and then setting that to soft light or multiply. i know that works to give strange/really cool colour effects sometimes. i'll mess around some tonight and see what happens.
